Last Saturday evening I had the please of attending a concert in Boulder featuring a very talented singer, Luna Itzel, from Cabo. The concert was a fundraiser for a super organization here in Boulder County that provides scholarships to Latinos in our community. The organization is called Boulder County Latina League. The founder is a delightful woman named Ester whom I have enjoyed meeting.

The concert was a glorious event. I attended with my assistant Bri, visiting artist Kimm Lanus (and Bri’s aunt) who was here for our August Frida ArtWalk and my dear friend Lourdes. Lourdes leads the Guadaluponous Dance Group that has performed at Bella Frida. Luna has a rich, powerful voice. It reminds me a bit of Lila Downs. She sang trafitional Mexican songs, some original compositions and a few surprises like “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”. She sang in English and Spanish. Even for a person like me who did not grow up in a Mexican home, the emotion she sang with still brought me to tears. During the concert I noticed many others deeply touched by her voice. Lourdes was singing along in the audience and was asked by Luna to join her on stage. They were so sweet together how they took turns letting each other shine. Luna not only is incredibly talented but she is also a very beautiful and giving person.

Luna is a rare talent and I am eager to spread the word so everyone can hear her! I have some of her cd’s at the store now. I am also starting to plan a concert here in Louisville next July featuring Luna. Please take a minute to listen to her music, it is a true gift.
